Twittering across the country

June 11th, 2009

The micro blogging website Twitter is one of the hottest things on the web these days.

I know here at 3TV and azfamily.com we use it to break news, share news information and connect with our viewers.

One Valley resident has found a way to connect, promote and travel while using the social networking site. Adam Aponte will be tweeting across the country as he visits seven  P.F. Changs restaurants.

Getting ready for some Monsoon weather and I think we got a lot of fun stuff planned for out online coverage.

Besides the 3TV storm team coverage and keeping you updated on Twitter and Facebook, we will have live streaming video, online chats to facilitate your weather reports and more.

I am excited about a few new things we are trying out this year.

I am going to storm chase, if you will, and live stream all of the action online – at least that is the plan.

NFL Draft 2009

April 25th, 2009
Comments Off

Big year this year for the Arizona Cardinals. With the success they had in 2008 they were in uncharted territory with the 31st pick in the draft.

With the 31st pick the Cards selected Chris ‘Beanie’ Wells, a running back out of Ohio State University. Pretty good pick at 31 and also signals Edgerrin James’ time with the team is short.

In the second round the Cardinals selected offensive linebacker Cody Brown out of the University of Connecticut.

In the third round the Cardinals selected safety Rashad Johnson from the University of Alabama.

In the fourth round the Cardinals selected corner back Gregory Toler from St. Paul’s College.

In the fifth round the Cardinals selected offensive guard Herman Johnson from Louisiana State University.

In the sixth round the Cardinals selected defensive end Will Davis from the University of Illinois.

The other big piece to the puzzle going into the draft was an Anquan Boldin trade. Rumors were swirling all week about will he or won’t he be back next season in a Cardinals uniform, but it appears as if no substantial offer was made and Boldin will be back (regardless if he wants to be or not).

Following draft updates on Azfamily.com and Twitter @3TVSports.

So I am a huge sports fan (if you couldn’t tell from reading my posts) and well there is an American holiday called Opening Day that happens in Major League Baseball at the beginning of April.

March Madness at its best

April 1st, 2009

Here on the LiveCasts we have been keeping you up to date on all things NCAA Basketball – at least all things men’s basketball.

For the past couple of weeks myself as well as many of you have been following the men’s tourney and as we should. So much great basketball has been played and the Final Four is still yet to be happen.

In all this excitement over the men we have somehow forgotten about the women.

In fact Lady Sun Devils out of Arizona State University in our own backyard, made some waves of their own – making it to the Elite 8 without one of their stars who was injured in the Pac 10 Tournament.

They faced what appears to be an unbeatable Conneticut team last night and lost, but put forth a great effort.

And speaking of UConn, the women in their own right they are going for an undefeated season, averaging a margin of victory of 30 points. And the men’s team is still playing for a chance to take the title. A men’s and women’s title for the Huskies would be a great feat – (something they actually did back in 2004).

Gosh I do love college basketball, both the men’s and women’s program.

Stay tuned for our LiveCast updates on Friday of this week leading up to the big finale. And if your bracket is busted (as mine is) – there is always next year.

Facebook changing its look

March 9th, 2009
Comments Off

You know the whole social networking thing has blown up when your parents ask you to be your friend on Facebook. Well that happened to me a few weeks back when my dad sent me a friend request.

I remember when Facebook first started you had to have a college e-mail address to join. Now a days anyone can join – even your parents :)

This week Facebook will roll out a new design that not only will affect your personal Facebook pages, but also significantly change fan pages.

The biggest changes include fan pages and personal profiles having more similarities and the status box at the top of the page will be a ‘What’s on your mind’ box eliminating the “is”.

The first change hopes to open up the doors between the average people on the site and those celebrities who have the fan pages. The second change will bring a Twitter like quality to Facebook with a what’s happening right now feel, much like Twitter does.

The competition between social networking sites will always be there. To me it seems as if these Facebook changes are a direct result of the rise of Twitter.

That’s the thing about the Internet, it changes daily.

And oh by the way I accepted my dad’s friend request. There is room for everyone in the social networking craze.
